Best of Brazil & the Amazon
Day 1 - Depart USA Overnight flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Day 2 - Arrive Rio de Janeiro (3 nights) On your arrival in Rio de Janeiro, one of the world's most exciting cities, you're met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, the highlight of our day is a visit to the Corcovado, the humpbacked mountain upon which stands the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer. En route we drive past Rio's beautiful residential beaches and see Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon with its luxury condos, and finally to the traditional Cosme Velho section with its historic turn-of-the-century mansions. Here we take a cogwheel train to the famous 122 foot high statue of Christ the Redeemer, with his outstretched arms embracing all above the spectacular views of the city at his feet. There's time to enjoy this breathtaking panorama before an exciting descent. This evening, why not check out one of the city's many restaurants — remember you're in Rio, known for its nightlife!
Day 3 - Rio de Janeiro sightseeing After breakfast this morning we will enjoy a half-day guided sightseeing tourw featuring the main sights of this city. Then, the highlight of our day is a awesome ride by cable car to the summit of 1,300 foot Sugar Loaf Mountain. Here we'll enjoy spectacular views of the city including the Corcovado to Guanabara Bay and Niteroi Bridge. After we descend, we drive along the Leblon and famous Ipanema beaches before stopping at one of the oldest cafés in Rio, the Art Deco Café Confeitaria Colombo for an included lunch. Later, the remainder of your day is at leisure to relax or you may wish to explore further. Remember, every night is carnival night in Rio, so let your hair down this evening and enjoy! Day 4 - Rio de Janeiro at leisure Enjoy a full day at leisure. Rio is an exhilarating city with so much to offer. Perhaps stroll around the colourful Saara, which is an enormous street bazaar in downtown Rio, checking out bargains for souvenirs in silver jewelry, leather goods or lacework. For the culture vultures there are museums and art galleries galore, or you may have a desire to take a samba lesson at one of the samba schools! The choice is all yours! Tonight, why not join your travelling companions for a farewell dinner at one of the vibrant restaurants" (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 5 - Rio de Janeiro — Iguassu Falls (2 nights) Today we transfer to the airport for our flight to Iguassu. Upon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel. After check-in we'll have a tour with a local guide along the Brazilian side of these magnificent natural waterfalls, which are bigger and even more breathtaking than Niagara Falls! Cameras at the ready for this is truly one of the natural wonders of the world with its constant roar and showering spray making it a memorable experience not to be missed at any cost! There is also a chance to take an amazing optional helicopter trip for a bird's eye view over the very mouth of these most spectacular falls. Tonight we dine at our hotel. (Buffet Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 6 - Iguassu Falls — Iguassu National Park Excursion This morning after breakfast we board our coach for our journey to the Argentine side of the falls where we explore this side of the famous falls. From here we will continue by coach to the Iguassu National Park. On arrival we enjoy a guided walking tour of this natural wonderland teeming with animals, birds and other wildlife. Afterwards we return to our hotel, where your afternoon is at leisure. This evening, we enjoy a barbecue dinner at a local restaurant. (Buffet Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 7 - Iguassu Falls — Manaus (3 nights) After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our flight to Manaus. On our arrival we transfer to the Amazon Ecopark Lodge" in its extraordinary tropical setting in the heart of the Amazon Jungle. When we reach the lodge we will enjoy a welcome drink. Tonight we enjoy dinner and a tour by canoe for "Alligator Spotting". (Buffet Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 8 - & 9 Amazon Ecopark Lodge Enjoy two fantastic days waking up to the sounds of another world, unchanged for centuries. Activities at the lodge include ecological tours such as alligator night spotting, 'piranha fishing' forest hiking, and by boat deep into the Amazon Jungle to visit igarapes (narrow creeks) and igapos (flooded forests) with their abundance of flora and fauna, including the distinctive sounds of the howler monkey, and calls of toucans, parrots and other native birds and wildlife. Have your cameras and binoculars ready! You will also visit the home of local Amazonian residents (caboclos). There is time to also relax in the pools, enjoy some sports, or simply stroll around the lodge. This is truly an experience to be remembered. Dinner will be served at the lodge nightly. Days 10 Amazon Ecopark Lodge — Manaus An early breakfast before our final excursion to the Monkey Jungle. We then transfer back to Manaus by boat and then on by coach. We check-in at the hotel, with time to relax or perhaps visit the Indian Museum or see the famous Opera House. This evening, why not celebrate the final night of this fabulous tour with your fellow travelling companions and enjoy a farewell dinner at the hotel" (Breakfast)
Day 11 Manaus — Sao Paulo — USA Bid 'adeus' as we transfer to Manaus airport for our return flight to America via Sao Paulo on Tuesday. (Buffet Breakfast)
