European Traveller (Winter 2008/2009)
Day 1 - Depart USA Overnight flight to London.
Day 2 - Arrive London (2 nights) After checking into your Trafalgar hotel, the rest of your day is at leisure.
Day 3 - London Sightseeing and at leisure Many major sights are included on our morning sightseeing tour such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. Your tour will finish in central London, so the rest of the day is at leisure to discover more of the city for yourself. (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 4 - London — Paris (2 nights) First to Dover for our sea crossing to Calais in France. We drive across the Somme battlefields to Paris, Europe's most romantic city. Later, we enjoy a Welcome Drink together — the ideal way to get to know your Tour Director and fellow travellers. (Continental Breakfast)
Day 5 - Paris Sightseeing and at leisure Guided sightseeing today shows us the Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Opera House and Notre Dame Cathedral. We also take the elevator to the second level of the Eiffel Tower for spectacular views over the entire city! Later you may wish to visit the Louvre Museum and check out the inverted glass pyramid made famous by the Da Vinci Code. Tonight, don't miss the opportunity to take in a Parisian cabaret! (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 6 - Paris — Lucerne An early start today as we drive through the Auxerrois and Burgundy vineyards, passing the castle of Châteauneuf. Past the remains of the Maginot Line at Belfort we reach the Swiss border at Basel and continue to lakeside Lucerne, where an orientation tour shows us the wooden covered Chapel Bridge and the poignant Lion Monument. This evening after dinner at our hotel, perhaps enjoy a drink in one of the cosy bars along the banks of the River Reuss. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner)
Day 7 - Lucerne — Florence You'll have time this morning to take a trip up a nearby mountain peak before we drive through the Gotthard Range and cross Lake Lugano into Italy. We continue our southward journey as we travel past Lake Como — viewing one of Northern Italy's most beautiful natural features. We travel on past Milan, the commercial capital, before reaching the forested Apennine mountains south of Bologna. Later we are in the region of Tuscany, renowned for its unique landscape featuring dark green cypress trees and silver green olive groves. We make our way to the Tuscan Renaissance capital of Florence for the night. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner)
Day 8 - Florence — Rome (2 nights) Today's guided sightseeing tour on foot shows us the Cathedral, the Baptistery, Signoria Square and includes a visit to the Basilica of Santa Croce where we see the tomb of Michelangelo. Then time to stop for leather and gold and our Tour Director shows us a Hidden Treasure before we travel on to Rome, the Eternal City. (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 9 - Rome Sightseeing and at leisure Our morning sightseeing with a local expert includes a visit to one of the world's most splendid churches, St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, allegedly built at the site where the beloved saint met his death. We also see Piazza Venezia and take time to photograph the Victor Emmanuel monument and the 15th century Palazzo Venezia before continuing along the 'Sacred Way' to see the Roman Forum and of course the breathtaking Colosseum. Later, we celebrate the end of our tour together with our Tour Director at a Farewell Dinner with wine in a local restaurant! (Buffet Breakfast / Farwell dinner)
Day 10 - Rome — USA Today time to bid farewell to our fellow travellers as we transfer you to the airport for your return flight to the USA. (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 11 - Christmas & New Year's Eve Highlights Tour departure 17 Dec will be accommodated in Rome over Christmas and tour departure 26 Dec will be accommodated in Lucerne on New Year's Eve giving you the opportunity to celebrate in true Swiss style.
