Enchanting Maritimes
Day 1 - Arrive Boston Welcome to Boston. A complimentary transfer is provided to the Trafalgar hotel. Your Tour Director is available this afternoon to welcome you and answer your questions.
Day 2 - Boston — Fredericton We travel briefly today along the New England coast through New Hampshire before heading inland through the woods of Maine. We cross the border into New Brunswick, Canada, and overnight in Fredericton, the provincial capital. Tonight enjoy the sights, tastes and sounds of Historic King's Landing with a welcome drink followed by dinner with live music. (Full Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)
Day 3 - Fredericton — Halifax (2 nights) This morning explore charming Fredericton, which was settled by British Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution in 1783. Our tour will include views of the University of New Brunswick, one of Canada's oldest universities, the Provincial Legislature Building and old Christ Church Cathedral. Later we skirt the shores of the Bay of Fundy, stopping at Fort Beausejour National Historic Site, where we tour this 18th century military outpost, important in the early colonial struggles of the region. This evening we arrive in dynamic Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia, for our two-night stay. (Full Breakfast)
Day 4 - Halifax & Peggy's Cove Today we explore this historic city on a sightseeing tour, including the Citadel and learn about the link between Halifax and the sinking of the Titanic. Later perhaps, set sails on board the historic Tall Ship Silva for an optional cruise. This afternoon, a highlight awaits you when we visit picturesque Peggy's Cove, one of the most scenic fishing villages in the Maritimes. Take time to enjoy views of the rocky shoreline dominated by its famous red and white lighthouse. (Full Breakfast)
Day 5 - Halifax — Sherbrooke Village — Baddeck (2 nights) Leaving Halifax, we travel north along Nova Scotia's eastern shore to historic Sherbrooke Village. We visit this living museum depicting a late 19th century Maritime village. Later we cross the Canso Causeway and onto Cape Breton Island. Traveling along the shores of picturesque Bras D'Or Lake we arrive in the village of Baddeck. On arrival we visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site where many of the great inventor's personal artifacts and mementos are on display. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)
Day 6 - Cabot Trail excursion This morning we follow the splendid Cabot Trail, explored by the Englishman John Cabot in the late 15th century. Mile after stunning mile, this amazing coastline with jagged peaks rising out of the sea will provide plenty of photo opportunities. Then we'll continue along the trail to Cape Breton Highland National Park, home to deep-walled canyons, sandy beaches and majestic cliffs. We return to Baddeck in the afternoon with the chance to join an optional cruise on Bras d'Or Lake. (Full Breakfast)
Day 7 - Baddeck — Wood Island Ferry — Charlottetown (2 nights) Our journey today takes us through Antigonish to the quaint fishing town and port of Pictou, one of the finest natural harbors in Canada. Here we board the ferry to Prince Edward Island. Once across, we travel through the scenic farmlands of the "Potato Capital of Canada." (Full Breakfast / Dinner)
Day 8 - Prince Edward Island sightseeing & at leisure We begin the morning with a locally guided sightseeing tour of Prince Edward Island. We drive up to the north shore to see Prince Edward Island National Park, with its varied landscapes and wildlife. A highlight of this storybook island is our visit to the Anne of Green Gables Museum. Here we will tour famous author Lucy Maud Montgomery's childhood home, now preserved as a museum followed by a scenic carriage ride through the lovely gardens to the "Lake of Shining Waters." A very special visit follows, as we enjoy tea and cookies with the Campbells, Lucy Maud's descendants. The remainder of the day is at leisure in charming Charlottetown. (Full Breakfast)
Day 9 - Charlottetown — Moncton Today we travel across the engineering marvel, Confederation Bridge, back to New Brunswick, and stop at Shediac Bay where we join a lobstering cruise. Feel free to ask questions or try lobstering yourself. Back on shore, we enjoy a delicious lobster lunch. We then follow the coast to Bouctouche where we visit the fascinating Le Pays de la Sagouine, a recreated Acadian village. Join a "Mathilda" as she creates a local Acadian dish and shares the recipe. Day 10 - Moncton — Saint John This morning starts with an orientation tour of Moncton. Our next stop is the quirky Magnetic Hill where vehicles roll up hill at this optical illusion. Next we stop at Shepody Bay to visit the spectacular Hopewell Rocks, known for its flowerpot-shaped islands carved by the world's highest tides. Then we drive along the scenic coast of Chignecto Bay, and inland through the forests of Fundy National Park, to historic Saint John. View the amazing Reversing Falls on the Saint John River. A short orientation tour includes a stop at the Old City Market before arriving at the hotel. (Full Breakfast)
Day 11 - Saint John — Acadia National Park — Bar Harbor We travel south today and cross the border back into the US into the state of Maine. It's a short distance to the seaside village of Bar Harbor, once home to the sumptuous mansions of America's wealthiest families who came to spend summer along the shores of Frenchman's Bay. This afternoon, we'll visit nearby Acadia National Park, the only national park in the New England states. Our tour takes us along the rugged coastline, past golden beaches and to the top of Cadillac Mountain for panoramic views. Tonight we'll toast to our new found friends and Maritime adventure at our Farewell Lobster Bake Dinner. (Full Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)
Day 12 - Bar Harbor — Depart Boston Enjoy a last look at the New England countryside as we journey south back to Boston. A complimentary transfer is provided back to Boston with stops at Boston Logan Airport and the Trafalgar hotel in Boston for passengers extending their stay in Boston. (Full Breakfast)
