Canadas Rockies & Rocky Mountaineer Train (Goldleaf) & Calgary Stampede
Day 1 - Arrive Calgary (2 nights) Welcome to Calgary, a city with a unique Western atmosphere during the Stampede. A complimentary transfer is provided to the Trafalgar hotel. Your Tour Director is available at the hotel this afternoon to greet you and answer your questions. Join us at 6:00pm for a Welcome Reception at the hotel. At 8:00pm, we attend the amazing Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon Races and Grandstand Show. The chuckwagon races relive the days of the "Old West" as teams compete for a prize topping $1 Million! Watch as chuckwagons and their outriders thunder down the tracks as if chased by a herd of stampeding cattle! End the day with the Evening Show musical extravaganza, complete with fireworks! (Welcome Reception)
Day 2 - Calgary Stampede We're off to the Calgary Stampede, the world's largest rodeo, featuring world-class talent. Our all-day tickets include reserved seating at rodeo events and admission to the Fairgrounds. Besides the exciting rodeo events, you can visit agricultural exhibits and listen to live bands. (Full Breakfast)
Day 3 - Calgary - Lake Louise We journey north to Banff National Park, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, and explore three of North America's most beautiful lakes. We start with Lake Louise, one of the most breathtaking settings in the world, where dark green forests frame the lake's azure waters against a backdrop of dramatic snow-capped peaks. Enjoy a narrated promenade along the lakeshore and learn about the wildlife, nature and history of Lake Louise. Next is Moraine Lake, nestled in the dramatic Valley of the Ten Peaks. Marvel at the stunning scenery with jagged peaks reflecting on the tranquil waters of the lake. We then cross the Continental Divide through Kicking Horse Pass and enter Yoho National Park. See Natural Bridge, Spiral Tunnels and Emerald Lake, a jewel sparkling with the blue-green hue of an emerald. We end the day at our hotel in the nearby hamlet of Lake Louise. Dinner tonight is served at the Lake Louise Railway Station & Restaurant, a carefully restored historic train station offering a classic Canadian dining experience. (Full Breakfast, Highlight Dinner)
Day 4 - Lake Louise — Columbia Icefield — Jasper (2 nights) We travel northwest along the Great Divide and the spine of the Rockies on the world-famous Icefields Parkway, one of the world's most spectacular mountain drives. Marvel at the unsurpassed scenery including subalpine forests, alpine meadows, massive glaciers and remarkable lakes. Keep an eye out for grizzly, black bear, moose, elk and other wildlife. At the Columbia Icefield, we board an Ice Explorer for the trip of a lifetime as we drive onto the massive Athabasca Glacier. We then follow the Sunwapta and Athabasca Rivers into the quaint township of Jasper, where we spend the next two nights. After dinner, we enjoy a fun and informative lecture by a local expert on the area's abundant wildlife. (Full Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 5 - Jasper National Park sightseeing & at leisure We start the day with a narrated walk along Maligne Canyon, one of the most beautiful gorges in the Canadian Rockies. Marvel at the spectacular rock formations and waterfalls, and learn about one of Canada's longest underground river systems. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to pursue your own interests. Activities abound in Jasper National Park, and your Tour Director will provide you with suggestions for optional excursions available to you. (Full breakfast)
Day 6 - Jasper — Icefields Parkway — Banff (2 nights) Snow-capped peaks, hanging glaciers, pounding waterfalls and surging rivers dominate the landscape as we retrace our steps on the Icefields Parkway on our way to Banff. Enjoy lunch at the beautiful Lodge of the Ten Peaks, before riding the Lake Louise Sightseeing Gondola. Capture the beauty of Lake Louise, glaciers, wildflowers and possibly even some wildlife. At the top, there are award-winning Interpretive Programs including indoor presentations on grizzly bears and themed guided walks. We end the day on arrival at the quintessential alpine village of Banff for our two-night stay. This evening, why not enjoy an entertaining musical celebration of Canada at the optional dinner theatre, Oh Canada Eh" (Full breakfast, Lunch)
Day 7 - Banff sightseeing & at leisure Our morning orientation tour introduces us to the best of Banff. See Bow Falls, the classic viewpoint of Surprise Corner along Tunnel Mountain Drive, and the wind-shaped hoodoos overlooking Bow Valley. The afternoon is at leisure in Banff for you to pursue your own interests. Optional activities include a helicopter flight over Mount Assiniboine, the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies, and a relaxing float trip down the beautiful Bow River. This evening, join us for a farewell dinner at the hotel. (Full Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 8 - Banff — Rocky Mountaineer — Kamloops Travel aboard the Rocky Mountaineer train in your choice of RedLeaf or GoldLeaf Service, on a two-day independent daytime rail journey from Banff to Vancouver. Travel through the Spiral Tunnels, past the glaciers of Kicking Horse Pass, under Mount McDonald, and along the South Thompson River to Kamloops where you are transferred to your hotel. Day 9 - Kamloops — Rocky Mountaineer — Depart Vancouver Continue your rail journey through the Thompson and Fraser Canyons, arriving in Vancouver at approximately 5:30pm. A complimentary transfer is provided from the train station to Vancouver International Airport or the Georgian Court |
