Splendors of China & the Grand Yangtze (Shangri-La)

Day 1 - Depart North America Board your overnight flight to Beijing.

Day 2 - Arrive Beijing Arrive in Beijing and meet your Trafalgar Tour Director at the airport before transferring to the Kempinsky

Day 3 - Beijing Beijing is home to many sights that make China a must-see destination. Tour the Forbidden City, a 250-acre complex of palaces, pavilions, courtyards and gardens. Then on to historic Tiananmen Square. Next, you'll ride in a rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Hutongs (ancient lanes and alleyways), located in the old residential area of Beijing. And, at the end of the day, indulge in a succulent Peking Duck dinner. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4 - Beijing With over 2,000 years of history, the Great Wall is one of the man-made marvels of the world. Each step you take along the wall is like retracing history. Next explore the Ming Tombs, home to the lavish burial chambers of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. End your day with refreshments and a traditional Beijing Opera performance. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5 - Beijing — Xi'an In the morning, admire the Summer Palace, one of China's largest and best-preserved imperial gardens. Later in the day, fly to Xi'an. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6 - Xi'an Xi'an the capital of Shaanxi Province, is the site of one of the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century — the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses. After your exploration of these fabulous sculptures, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. Savor a delicious dumpling lunch, and the in the evening, delight in a Tang Dynasty dinner and cultural show. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 7 - Xi'an - Chongqing Fly from Xi'an to Chongqing. A hilly downtown and propensity for fog are why many often compare Chongqing to San Francisco. In the afternoon, there's a zoo visit for a glimpse of a Giant Panda. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 8 - Chongqing — Yangtze River Cruise Board your cruise ship and sail along the Yangtze with its enchanting rushing waters and vertical limestone cliffs. Down river, visit the "Ghost City," Fengdu and tour the temples on Mingshan Hill. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 9 - Yangtze River Cruise — Lesser Three Gorges Sail through Qutang Gorge, the grandest gorge of them all and Wu Gorge, with its majestic 12 mountain peaks. Then board a riverboat and embark on a voyage down the Lesser Three Gorges, depending on water levels. It's an enchanting and tranquil journey that will take you through "Dragon Gate," "Misty Gorge" and "Emerald Gorge." (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)


Day 10 - Yangtze River Cruising Admire the dramatic shoals and verdant cliffs as you cruise through Xiling Gorge on the way to the site of the controversial Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydroelectric power project dam. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 11 - Yangtze River Cruise — Wuhan Tour Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province and a fusion of three cities that span both banks of the Yangtze. Explore the Hubei Provincial Museum. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 12 - Yangtze River Cruise — Huangshan Disembark at Guichi for a full-day tour to Huangshan depending on weather and/or road conditions, and discover why countless painters and poets have been lured to this landscape. China's Yellow Mountain is famous for rocky, mist-enshrouded peaks and artistically shaped pine trees. Pass by quaint villages and bright green rice paddies on your journey. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 13 - Yangtze River Cruise — Nanjing Set in the foothills of the Zijin Mountains on the southern bank of the Yangtze, Nanjing holds a prominent place in Chinese history. In the Old Town, you'll visit the Mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen. You'll also have time to browse the Qing Dynasty-style bazaar and explore the Confucian Temple. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) 

Day 14 - Yangtze River Cruise — Shanghai Disembark and enjoy the many splendors of Shanghai. Today, you'll stroll through Old Town then along the Bund, Shanghai's famed waterfront promenade. Also enjoy the peaceful Yu Yuan Gardens and visit the
Oriental Pearl TV Tower with its distinctive artistic spheres, revolving teahouse and
sightseeing platform. Tonight, prepare to be dazzled as the amazing Shanghai Acrobats entertain you. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 15 - Shanghai — Tongli — Shanghai A charming town, Tongli is the China of picture books, complete with narrow streets, simple and elegant homes, teahouses and intriguing shops. Visit the Children's Palace, where youngsters receive advanced training in music and art. Recall your favorite memories of this fabulous tour at tonight's farewell dinner. (Buffet Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 16 - Shanghai — North America Transfer to the airport for your return flight to North America. (Buffet Breakfast)
